Abrasive agent
Hard mineral particles, typically almandine garnet, metered into the high-pressure water jet to drastically increase cutting performance in hard-to-machine or thick materials. The particle size directly affects surface quality.
Abrasive media mechanically grind away material. If you treat the surface with it, you have to clean thoroughly afterwards, otherwise you'll get pores or inclusions in the weld later. Also be careful not to remove too much material, especially on thin sheets or edges you still need to weld. The surface must be clean and dry after abrasive blasting, then you can weld over it as usual.
