Absolute Eddy Current Probe

An absolute probe is an eddy current probe with a single active coil that detects absolute changes in material properties or geometries.

Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action

The absolute probe measures the magnetic field generated by a material. This field changes proportionally to the material's electrical properties.

Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks

Measuring absolute changes helps control material properties and geometries. Incorrect values can indicate poor weld quality or material changes, which can lead to cracks or failures.

Workshop Practice & Instructions

Use the absolute probe before and after welding to ensure no changes occur. The reference voltage should always be properly calibrated. If you get unusual results, check the weld and redo it if needed.
