AC Balance Control
AC balance control adjusts the ratio of positive and negative phases during AC TIG welding of aluminum. It ensures a balance between oxide layer cleaning and penetration into the workpiece, improving weld quality.
Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action
AC balance control affects the time the workpiece is connected to the positive and negative poles during an AC cycle. An optimal balance between these phases ensures effective removal of the oxide layer without burning or weakening too much material.
Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks
Uneven AC balance control can lead to various problems. If the positive phase is too long, too much burn-off occurs and the workpiece weakens. If the positive phase is too short, it prevents adequate oxide cleaning, leading to porosity and low weld strength.
Workshop Practice & Instructions
To ensure optimal AC balance control, set the ratio between positive and negative phases to 50:50. This can be done by adjusting the TIG machine. For special materials or weld quality issues, you can slightly adjust this ratio to achieve better cleaning or less burn-off.
