Active Brazing Filler Metal

An active brazing filler metal contains alloyed elements such as titanium or zirconium that chemically react with ceramic materials and enable direct wetting without prior metallic coating. This allows the joining of ceramic-metal composites.

Active brazing filler metal contains reactive elements like titanium that chemically attack the ceramic surface and make it wettable. This saves you from pre-metallizing the ceramic. But you have to work clean and pick the right filler for your material pair, otherwise the ceramic reacts away or the filler doesn't wet properly. Don't run the temperature too high and control the time, then you'll get a dense, pore-free joint.
