Active pickling paste for stainless steel

Active pickling paste for stainless steel is an acid-containing agent used to remove heat tint and oxides, restoring the passive layer and preventing corrosion.

Physicochemical Mechanism of Action

Active pickling paste contains weak acids such as citric acid or sulfuric acid. These react with the heat tint and oxides on the surface of the stainless steel, dissolving and removing them.

Metallurgical Relevance & Risks in Welding

The passive layer of stainless steel protects against corrosion. After welding, it can be damaged or missing. Applying the pickling paste restores the passive layer, which increases corrosion resistance and reduces the risk of corrosion.

Workshop Practice & Instructions

Use the pickling paste immediately after welding. Spray it onto the closed seam and let it sit for 5-10 minutes. Then clean carefully with a fine abrasive stone or an air blower. Make sure no pickling paste remains, as it can damage the stainless steel.
