Active Flux

Active welding flux contains silicon and manganese oxides that bind oxygen and increase weld metal strength. It promotes controlled deoxidation and compensates for variations in base metal analysis.

Physicochemical Mechanism of Action

Active welding flux contains silicon and manganese oxides that bind oxygen during the welding process. This reaction creates a protective layer on the weld surface, reducing porosity and improving strength.

Metallurgical Relevance & Risks in Welding

Correct application of active flux prevents porosity and increases weld toughness. Missing or insufficient flux can lead to inadequate deoxidation, causing porosity and weak spots. Too much flux can coarsen the microstructure and reduce strength.

Workshop Practice & Instructions

Use active welding flux in the amount specified on the manufacturer's label. Ensure the flux is dry and free of contaminants before use. Apply just before welding to ensure optimal deoxidation.
