Active Gas Shielding Welding

An arc welding process utilizing a chemically active shielding gas to purposefully influence metallurgical reactions within the molten pool.

Active gas is different from pure argon or helium. Active gas, like CO2 or mixtures, participates chemically in the welding process. Pure argon or helium are inert, they don't react. When welding with active gas, you have to watch that the gas flow doesn't break off, otherwise the oxygen from the air will pull pores into the weld. Set the gas amount so that the weld pool stays calm and clean without spattering. If you hit the parameters right, the weld will be clean and have proper strength.
