Activating welding auxiliary
An activating welding aid is a chemical paste applied before welding to influence surface tension and thereby increase penetration depth. It improves weld quality and prevents porosity.
Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action
An activating welding aid reacts with the metal surface to increase tension. This causes the metal to fuse more easily and achieve greater penetration depth.
Metallurgical Relevance & Risks in Welding
The use of an activating welding aid improves weld quality by preventing porosity and increasing penetration depth. Without correct application, the medium can cause unwanted reactions or damage the surface.
Workshop Practice & Instructions
Before welding, apply the activating welding aid in a thickness of 0.1 to 0.2 mm. Let it dry for at least 5 minutes before starting to weld. Make sure the medium does not react too strongly with the surface or cause unwanted changes.
