Acoustic Emission Testing

Acoustic emission is the generation of sound waves during welding, especially in laser welding. It signals potential problems like excessive voltage or inadequate cooling.

Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action

Acoustic emission occurs due to the rapid expansion of gases and liquids in the weld zone. This expansion generates sound waves that are emitted as acoustic signals.

Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks

Acoustic emission can be an indicator of uneven cooling or excessive voltage. Excessive acoustic emissions can lead to insufficient material improvement and increased risk of cracking.

Workshop Practice & Action Instructions

Monitor acoustic emission during welding. If emission increases, check the cooling systems and voltage settings. Ensure that the laser weld cools evenly to ensure high quality and safety.
