Acoustic Emission Analysis under Hydrostatic Test

Acoustic Emission Analysis under hydrostatic test monitors pressure vessels with piezo sensors to detect dynamic crack growth during the pressure test.

Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action

Piezo sensors detect acoustic emissions that occur due to mechanical stress or material failure. These emissions indicate cracks or stress signs in the material.

Metallurgical Relevance & Risks in Welding

If handled incorrectly, undetected cracks or stresses can lead to acoustic signals that are interpreted as dangerous. This can result in unnecessary repairs and increased costs.

Workshop Practice & Action Instructions

Use piezo sensors for continuous monitoring during the hydrostatic test. Set a pressure of 1.25 to 1.5 times the operating pressure and monitor the emissions for at least 30 minutes. If anomalies occur, conduct a detailed crack analysis.
