Alpha-Beta Titanium Alloy

A versatile titanium material type possessing a dual-phase microstructure that can be tailored via thermal treatment for optimal strength and toughness.

Alpha-beta titanium is a mixed structure of the harder alpha phase and the softer, more formable beta phase. When welding, it's important not to destroy the structure with too much heat. If you treat the parts wrong, you'll get stresses and cracks. It's important to weld the material clean and under shielding gas, because titanium reacts extremely sensitively to oxygen and nitrogen at high temperatures. Cooling should be controlled and slow so that a stable structure forms and the component doesn't become brittle. If you don't have the heat under control, you'll lose strength or get distortion.
