Alpha stabilizer
An alloying element like aluminum or oxygen in titanium that promotes the alpha phase and raises the beta transus temperature.
Alpha stabilizers like aluminum or oxygen keep the structure in the alpha state at room temperature. When welding titanium, you must ensure that cooling is not too fast, otherwise a hard, brittle structure forms that tends to crack. But cooling too slowly is also bad, then the grain grows and the material becomes tough and soft. So regulate cooling so that a fine, uniform structure forms, then the weld remains stable and withstands the load.
