Aluminum-iron-silicon alloy

A complex aluminum cast or wrought microstructural system where iron and silicon control the formation of precipitate phases. This specifically influences the high-temperature strength of the material.

AlSi alloys are basically weldable, but you have to watch out that the structure doesn't get too coarse. Iron is usually present as an impurity and can form hard, brittle phases with silicon. If you put in too much heat or the melt stays liquid too long, you'll get cracks or a brittle weld.
