Aluminum Casting Alloy Homogenization Annealing

A thermal treatment of aluminum castings to dissolve concentration differences caused by microsegregation and to relieve residual stresses. This achieves a uniform microstructural structure for subsequent forming processes.

Homogenizing annealing compensates for segregations that occur during casting. The structure becomes more uniform and internal stresses are relieved. If you want to weld or form the part afterwards, this is important, otherwise you can get cracks. But be careful not to anneal the material for too long or too hot, otherwise the grain will become coarse and the part will lose strength. The exact times and temperatures depend on the alloy, you have to look that up.
