Aluminum Homogenization Annealing
High-temperature heat treatment of cast billets to reduce microscopic segregations and prepare for subsequent forming processes.
You do homogenization annealing to dissolve the cast structure of aluminum. The part is brought to temperature evenly and held there so the alloy components distribute finely. If you skip it or anneal too briefly, you'll later have problems with segregations during welding and the material becomes more sensitive to cracking. After annealing, let the workpiece cool slowly, then the structure remains calm and you have less distortion.
