Aluminum-Copper Alloy
A precipitation-hardenable light metal system that achieves high strength values at moderate weight through intermetallic phases. It is widely used in aerospace engineering.
Aluminum-copper alloys are hardenable, meaning you can restore strength by welding and subsequent heat treatment. If you don't work cleanly, you'll get hot cracks and the parts will break under your hands. Watch controlled heat input and let the component cool slowly and evenly to avoid stress buildup. You should definitely weld with shielding gas, otherwise the material oxidizes and you won't get a clean weld.
