Aluminum-Lithium Density Reduction Effect
Lithium is used in aluminum to reduce weight and increase strength – ideal for aircraft construction.
Physicochemical Mechanism of Action
Lithium is integrated into the aluminum matrix. This reduces the specific weight of the material, since lithium is lighter than aluminum. At the same time, the elastic modulus increases due to the improved crystal structure.
Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks
Incorrect welding parameters can lead to phase transformations, which impair mechanical properties. Too high temperatures or too long cooling times can damage the aluminum-lithium microstructure and reduce strength.
Workshop Practice & Instructions
Use special welding methods like TIG welding with low temperature. Keep the cooling time below 10 seconds to protect the microstructure. Always check the mechanical properties after welding.
