Aluminum-Magnesium Casting Alloy

A seawater-resistant casting alloy with good weldability, primarily used for complex maritime structural components.

AlMg casting alloys are basically weldable, but you have to be careful not to burn the structure. The parts are often warped or have oxide inclusions, so thoroughly clean the surface beforehand and keep it dry. If you apply too much heat or weld too slowly, you'll get porosity and the weld will become brittle. For the workshop, that means: prepare cleanly, work with suitable filler material, and keep an eye on heat input, then the part will also hold up in saltwater.
