Aluminum-Magnesium Grain Refinement

Metallurgical process reducing primary grain dimensions in AlMg alloys through targeted addition of nucleants, simultaneously enhancing mechanical strength and formability.

AlMg alloys are grain refined by adding titanium or boron. This ensures a fine, uniform grain in the cast structure. When welding, this is an advantage because fine grain is less prone to hot cracking than coarse grain. You just have to be careful not to heat input too high and overheat the weld. Otherwise, you can weld the alloy with the usual processes; the grain refinement is not lost.
