Aluminum-magnesium alloy
A non-heat-treatable, highly corrosion-resistant aluminum alloy with good strength, frequently used in shipbuilding.
You make AlMg alloys stronger by solid solution strengthening, not by age hardening. The magnesium distorts the lattice, making the material harder. When you weld, you lose this cold working in the heat-affected zone, and the weld becomes soft there – you have to account for that in the design.
