Aluminum-Magnesium-Silicon Alloy
Aluminum-magnesium-silicon alloy is an aluminum alloy with high strength and low density. It is often used in the aerospace industry.
AlMgSi alloys are heat-treatable wrought alloys. Strength here comes not from work hardening but from heat treatment. When welding, you basically re-soften the structure: the heat dissolves the precipitates, and the weld and heat-affected zone become softer than the base material. You have to account for that in the design.
