Aluminum Melt Degassing
Process for reducing dissolved hydrogen content in liquid aluminum by injecting inert gases to prevent casting porosity.
When welding aluminum, hydrogen is the biggest problem. It gets into the hot melt and when cooling, pores form in the weld. So you need to have the material clean and dry, and with AC TIG welding you work off the oxide film, which protects the melt from moisture.
