Aluminum Welding Wire Consumable
A solid wire made from specific aluminum alloy systems optimized for GMAW welding of light metals. Due to its high tendency to oxidize, it requires continuous wire feed monitoring.
Aluminum always has an oxide layer that melts much higher than the base material. You have to remove it mechanically before welding, otherwise you won't get a clean bond. The filler material contains elements that break up the oxide and calm the melt. Watch for a clean, even wire feed, otherwise the arc flickers and you'll draw pores. If the weld solidifies too fast, it tends to crack – so don't put too much heat in and keep the weld clean.
