Aluminum-Silicon Castability

Excellent mold filling and low hot-tearing susceptibility of eutectic AlSi alloys due to a narrow solidification range and high melt fluidity.

Aluminum-silicon alloys are great for casting due to their good flow properties and favorable solidification behavior. The stuff flows well into the mold and is less prone to hot cracking. When welding, you have to be careful not to overheat the alloy, otherwise you'll have problems with the heat-affected zone. So keep the heat input in check and work quickly, then the structure stays clean.
