Aluminum-Silicon Casting Alloy

Aluminum-silicon cast alloys are aluminum alloys with a high silicon content (approx. 10-25%). They offer high strength and heat resistance, but are susceptible to corrosion.

AlSi casting alloys are basically weldable, but you have to be careful. The material tends to hot cracking during welding, especially if you put too much heat in or the weld cools too quickly. Before welding, clean the part thoroughly and preheat it if possible to relieve stresses. When welding itself: don't use too much heat, but pull through calmly and evenly. Afterward, let the weld cool slowly, then the structure becomes calmer and the weld holds better.
