Aluminum-Zinc-Magnesium Alloy

Aluminum-zinc-magnesium alloys are light, soft metals with high strength potential and good formability. They are often used in aluminum processing to increase strength.

Aluminum-zinc-magnesium alloys are high-strength but tricky to weld. The problem is the zinc content: it easily evaporates during welding, causing porosity and hot cracking. You need to keep the heat input low and weld quickly. Pay meticulous attention to clean material, remove grease and oxides beforehand. As filler, it's best to use a special AlMg alloy that handles it better. And don't make the weld too wide, otherwise the structure in the heat-affected zone will transform and you'll lose strength.
