Anodic Passivation

Intentional formation of a protective oxide layer via anodic polarization of the workpiece in a suitable electrolyte bath.

Anodic passivation means you deliberately connect the component as the anode in an electrolyte bath. This forms a thin, protective oxide layer on the surface that protects the metal from corrosion. If the bath composition or treatment time is wrong, the layer becomes incomplete and the part will rust away under your hands. Make sure the component goes into the bath clean and grease-free, otherwise it won't passivate properly in those spots. After treatment, rinse thoroughly and dry, then the layer will last.
