Arc Force Control
Arc force control briefly increases the current when the arc becomes too short. This prevents the electrode from sticking and the arc from extinguishing.
Physical-Chemical Working Mechanism
Arc force control monitors the voltage across the arc. When the voltage rises, indicating that the arc is short (e.g., due to a thin slag layer or uneven material distribution), the control briefly increases the current. This provides a stronger electrode-plasma force, preventing electrode sticking and stabilizing arc life.
Metallurgical Relevance & Risks in Welding
Without arc force control, a short arc can cause the electrode to stick, leading to arc extinction. This can result in incomplete welds and cracks in the material. The control prevents these issues by quickly reacting to voltage spikes.
Workshop Practice & Action Instructions
In the workshop, arc force control is activated by default. Check regularly that it is set correctly and watch for signs of irregular arc behavior. If problems occur, you can adjust the current threshold to ensure optimal control.
