Carburizing agent

Carburizing agents are materials that supply carbon and thus promote carburizing of the workpiece surface. They can be liquid or gaseous.

Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action

Carburizing agents react with the workpiece surface and supply carbon, which carburizes the surface and changes its chemical composition. This can lead to increased strength and improved weldability.

Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks

Incorrect or excessive carburizing can lead to uneven deformation, porosity, and reduced weld strength. Too little carburizing may not sufficiently prepare the surface for a good weld.

Workshop Practice & Action Guidelines

Use carburizing agents in the right amount and at the correct temperatures. Carefully monitor the surface changes and adjust the carburizing as needed.
