Autogenous kerf parallelism
Oxy-fuel cut kerf parallelism is the measure of the squareness and uniformity of the kerf width across the entire plate thickness during thermal oxy-fuel cutting. Deviations indicate uneven gas flows.
Physicochemical Mechanism of Action
Thermal oxy-fuel cutting creates a kerf through hot melt gas. The parallelism of this kerf is determined by uniform gas flow and the squareness element.
Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks
Uneven gas flows lead to kerfs of inconsistent width, affecting mechanical strength and precision of cut edges. This can cause cracks or distortions in the overall part.
Workshop Practice & Instructions
To ensure good parallelism, monitor gas flow and ensure the squareness element is correctly set. A width compensation barrier can help minimize uneven kerfs.
