Autogenous ignition delay time
The time between ignition temperature and the start of the combustion process during cutting. It affects the precision and safety of the piercing operation.
Physicochemical mechanism of action
The autogenous ignition delay time is the time the tool stands on the surface to be cut before it starts to burn. This process depends on the properties of the tool and the surface.
Metallurgical relevance & risks in welding
A too short ignition delay time can lead to incomplete piercing or excessive burning, which damages the tool and reduces precision. A too long time can cause the tool to overheat and damage or break it.
Workshop practice & instructions
For an optimal ignition delay time, the following values should be maintained: for steel tools approx. 0.1 to 0.3 seconds, for sheet metal tools approx. 0.2 to 0.5 seconds. The exact time depends on the tool type and material and should be adjusted as needed.
