Oxyacetylene Welding Powder
Oxy-acetylene welding powder is a fine-grained additive used in gas welding or spraying to harden the surface layer and make it more wear-resistant. It is added directly to the flame.
Physikalisch-chemischer Wirkmechanismus
Oxy-acetylene welding powder contains metals like titanium, zinc, or nickel, which react with oxygen during combustion, generating a strong gas jet. This jet provides high temperature and pushes the metal into the workpiece, resulting in a dense, hard surface layer.
Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks
Using oxy-acetylene welding powder increases the hardness and wear resistance of the surface, which is especially helpful in high-load applications. However, excessive use can contaminate the metal or make it too hard, leading to cracking or distortion. Insufficient use has no significant effect.
Werkstattpraxis & Handlungsanweisungen
Use oxy-acetylene welding powder typically in an amount of 1 to 2% of the total metal. Add the powder directly to the flame while moving the spray rod. Ensure the metal is well covered and free of contaminants. Excessive temperature can burn the powder or make it too hard, so a controlled flame is important.
