Basic Flux-Cored Wire Electrode

A welding consumable with a mineral-based core that produces tough weld metal with low hydrogen contents, meeting the highest notch toughness requirements.

Basic flux-cored wires are there to produce tough, low-hydrogen weld metal. That's important when you have to meet high impact requirements, e.g. in steel construction or pressure vessels. The mineral additive in the wire binds the hydrogen and keeps the weld metal clean. When welding, make sure you don't get too much hydrogen into the weld pool, otherwise there's a risk of cracking. The parts must be clean, and you should get the right welding position and heat input. If you feel the material is cooling too fast, the structure becomes hard and brittle – then better keep an eye on the interpass temperature and don't overdo it.
