Basic Flux-Cored Wire
A welding consumable with a mineral core based on limestone and fluorspar, yielding a metallurgically clean weld metal with high toughness at low temperatures. It is primarily used for highly stressed structures in structural steel engineering.
Basic flux-cored wire is a wire with slag formers that react basic. The core gives the slag its properties, which protect and refine the weld pool. The result is a tough, low-porosity weld that holds well even at low temperatures. You have to store the wire dry and prepare the joint cleanly, otherwise you get hydrogen cracks. The slag is easy to remove after welding, but pay attention to the correct settings on your machine, then it runs clean.
