Basic Consumable Electrode
A coated stick electrode type or flux-cored wire with a mineral filling based on limestone and fluorspar, producing extremely tough weld metal. It is primarily used for highly stressed structures where crack resistance is required.
Basic welding consumables produce a tough, low-hydrogen weld metal and are good against cold cracking. The coating contains calcite and fluorspar, which ensure slag cleaning and protection against hydrogen. You need to control the cooling, but blanket times for the temperature range from 800 to 500 degrees are not sensible – it depends entirely on wall thickness and material. Follow the manufacturer's specifications for heat input and preheating, then you're on the safe side.
