Pickling and Passivating Paste

Pickling and passivating paste removes oxide layers and heat tint on stainless steel weld areas to restore the corrosion-protective passive layer.

Physicochemical Mechanism of Action

The paste contains chemical foams and oxygen-binding agents. It reacts with oxide layers and heat tint on the stainless steel surface by dissolving and detaching them.

Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks

Without removal of oxide layers and heat tint, the passive layer cannot be restored. This leads to reduced corrosion resistance of the weld, shortening component life and increasing the risk of corrosion cracking.

Workshop Practice & Action Guidelines

Apply the paste in a thickness of 0.5 to 1 mm to the area to be treated. Allow it to work for about 5 minutes, then remove with a fine abrasive tool. Ensure the area is completely dry before proceeding with welding.
