Pickling and Passivation
Combined chemical treatment of stainless steel to remove scale, heat tints, and foreign iron, followed by the targeted formation of the chromium oxide layer. This restores the corrosion-resistant state.
When pickling, you use an acid to strip the scale and discoloration off the weld. Then you passivate the surface so a protective chromium oxide layer forms, which protects against corrosion. If you do it sloppily, scale remains or the protective layer is uneven, and the part will rust at the weld later. So first pickle clean, rinse well, then passivate and let the surface dry.
