Pickling Corrosion Inhibitor Addition
Adding a pickling Corrosion Inhibitor prevents acid from attacking the exposed base metal and avoids hydrogen embrittlement.
Physicochemical mechanism of action
Organic substances in acid baths bind the released iron atoms and prevent them from reacting with the acid. This halts the hydrogen embrittlement process.
Metallurgical relevance & risks in welding
Without a pickling Corrosion Inhibitor, the acid can attack the exposed iron and cause hydrogen embrittlement. This can lead to cracks, wear, and reduced weld strength.
Shop practice & action instructions
Use pickling Corrosion Inhibitor in acid baths at a concentration of 0.1-0.5%. Make sure the substance is properly dosed and well dissolved. Regularly monitor effectiveness and adjust dosage as needed.
