Calculation Formula for Arc Energy
The mathematical combination of welding current, arc voltage, and travel speed used to quantify the thermal energy supplied per unit length.
The heat input is the heat you put in per millimeter of weld. It results from current, voltage, and your travel speed. Too much energy makes the grain coarse and the weld brittle, too little gives no proper penetration. So you have to find the balance: drive faster at high current or slower with less current. Ultimately, you go by the material and the joint type, not by a formula.
