Beryllium hardening mechanism

Enables massive hardening and strength increases in copper- and nickel-base alloys through the precipitation of coherent phases.

Beryllium is often used as an alloying element for copper materials to increase strength. When welding, you have to be careful not to overheat the structure or leave it in the heat zone too long. Otherwise, you lose the effect of hardening and the material becomes soft or cracks. So keep the heat input as low as possible and cool the component quickly after welding. Also make sure the weld is well covered, because welding beryllium-containing materials produces toxic fumes that you must not inhale under any circumstances.
