Beta stabilizer
An alloying element like vanadium or molybdenum in titanium that stabilizes the beta phase and lowers the transformation temperature.
Beta-stabilizers like vanadium, molybdenum or niobium keep part of the beta phase stable during cooling. This results in less hard, brittle alpha martensite in the weld – the structure remains more ductile and the risk of cracking decreases. First check what's in the base material and filler. Use a filler that matches the base material in terms of stabilizer content. Weld with clean shielding gas and let the weld cool in still air – don't quench. If the weld gets too hard, something's wrong with the alloy or the cooling.
