Beta transus temperature
The threshold temperature in titanium alloys above which the microstructure converts completely into the body-centered cubic beta phase. It determines critical parameters for heat treatment and forging.
The beta transus temperature is the point at which the microstructure of a titanium alloy fully transforms into the beta phase. If you go above it during welding or heat treatment, you get coarse grain and the material becomes brittle and prone to cracking. So you always need to know where this limit is for your specific alloy, as it varies by grade. For welding, that means working clean and keeping heat input as low as possible to avoid going over it.
