Quality level B

Quality level B is the highest quality level according to ISO 5817 for welds with very strict requirements on imperfection tolerances. It is chosen for highly loaded components where irregularities are strictly limited.

Physicochemical Mechanism of Action

Quality level B sets strict requirements on weld quality. This means that imperfection tolerances are extremely small and any irregularity must be detected.

Metallurgical Relevance & Risks in Welding

If not handled correctly, a quality level B weld can lead to unacceptable imperfections, such as excessive cracking or uneven stresses. This can jeopardize the safety and service life of the component.

Workshop Practice & Instructions

To ensure a quality level B weld, all welding parameters must be strictly adhered to. This includes proper selection of the welding consumable, correct filler volume, and precise temperature control. The weld must be regularly inspected and adjusted if necessary.
