Block welding sequence

Depositing full-thickness increments in short sections along a long joint. It maintains interpass temperatures and prevents cooling when welding thick components.

In block welding, you weld the seam in short sections, letting each one cool completely before starting the next. This keeps the heat input low and prevents too much stress from building up in the part. The block size depends on the wall thickness and how rigid the part is – for thick or heavily constrained parts, use smaller blocks. It's important to choose the sequence so that heat is distributed evenly and no corners get too hot. You mainly do this with thick plates or when you want to avoid cracks from shrinkage stresses.
