Block welding sequence
Block sequence welding is a thick-wall welding method where the weld is divided into blocks, and each block is completely welded before starting the next. This prevents accumulated shrinkage.
Physicochemical Mechanism of Action
The block sequence divides the entire weld into several smaller, independent sections (blocks). Each block is completely welded before starting the next. This prevents accumulated shrinkage during the entire welding process.
Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks
Accumulated shrinkage can lead to stress buildup and thus cracking, especially in thick steel plates. The block sequence minimizes this stress because each welding step occurs independently.
Workshop Practice & Action Guidelines
1. Divide the entire weld into equal-sized blocks.
2. Start with the first block and weld it completely.
3. Let the weld cool before moving to the next block.
4. Repeat the process for each block until the entire weld is completed.
