Bronze

A copper alloy where the primary alloying element is not zinc or nickel, but typically tin, aluminum, or silicon. It exhibits high wear resistance, seawater resistance, and excellent sliding properties.

Bronze is an alloy of copper and tin. The tin makes it seawater-resistant and easy to form, but it is softer and not as strong as steel. When welding, you have to be careful not to overheat the material, otherwise you will distort the workpiece or the weld will become brittle. Before welding, the surface should be clean, and the weld should not be too thin. For most repairs, the standard procedure is sufficient, but for heavily stressed parts, you have to consider whether bronze is the right material at all.
