Carbide Stabilizer Niobium-Titanium
Alloy additions that preferentially bind carbon to prevent the precipitation of chromium carbides at grain boundaries and associated corrosion phenomena.
Niobium and titanium are strong carbide formers. They bind the carbon in the weld before it can combine with the chromium. That way you prevent chromium carbide formation at the grain boundaries, which would otherwise lead to corrosion and cracking. The structure stays stable and the weld stays tough. So add the stabilizers deliberately in chromium-containing alloys to avoid exactly that.
