Chemical Metal Removal
Chemical removal is the process where a metal layer is dissolved through chemical reactions to remove defects and expose cleaner zones. In pickling, this method is used to improve the weld.
Physicochemical mechanism of action
Chemical removal refers to the chemical dissolution of a metal layer through reactions with special chemical agents. These agents react with the defect layers and dissolve them, allowing them to be removed.
Metallurgical relevance & risks in welding
The use of chemicals to dissolve defects can improve weld quality. However, care must be taken to avoid creating new corrosion susceptibility or damaging the metal. Incorrect selection or application of chemical agents can lead to unwanted reactions and worsen the weld.
Workshop practice & instructions
In the pickling process, a special chemical agent is applied to the metal layer. Time and temperature must be precisely controlled to achieve effective dissolution of the defects. After removal, the metal must be thoroughly cleaned and dried before welding.
