CMT Wire Retraction Dynamics

CMT wire retraction dynamics is the mechanical pulling back of the filler wire during the short circuit in the Cold Metal Transfer Welding process. It supports material detachment and reduces heat input.

Physicochemical Mechanism of Action

In the CMT process, the filler wire is mechanically pulled back during the short circuit. This prevents high temperatures and supports material detachment.

Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks

Too fast or too strong retraction can cause insufficient material detachment, leading to porosity and reduced strength. Too slow retraction increases heat input and can cause distortion and damage to the material.

Workshop Practice & Instructions

Ensure the retraction speed is between 100 and 200 mm/s. Monitor temperature and adjust speed or wire pressure if needed.
