CMT Short-Circuit Detection

CMT short-circuit detection monitors the electrical contact between the wire electrode and the weld pool. Quick reaction to short circuits ensures process stability.

Physicochemical Mechanism of Action

CMT short-circuit detection senses the electrical contact between the wire electrode and the weld pool. A short circuit means a sudden current flow that can briefly overload the electrode.

Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks

An uncontrolled short circuit can cause severe hot cracks and distortion. Process stability is compromised, leading to poor weld quality and possible material wear.

Workshop Practice & Instructions

Set short-circuit detection for a short duration (approx. 10 ms). Continuously monitor voltage signals and react quickly to anomalies. Use high-quality electrodes and shielding to avoid short circuits.
